If just cheese and bread existed in this world, I think I would be happy…I LOVE cheese! But since I discovered that I was lactose intolerant, cheese is on the ‘no’ list. Cheese is in so many comfort foods, like pizza, mac & cheese, grilled cheese, ham and cheese sandwiches, cheese and crackers…cheese works great with almost anything…so I was pretty bummed out when I had to cut it out.
I later found a soy product called ‘Vegan Gourmet’, it’s a weird kind of texture if you eat it raw, it’s sort of jiggly and does not at all have a cheese text
ure, when you melt it though, it sort of lets you pretend you are eating cheese, but it still isn’t the best, it doesn’t really taste like normal cheese.
About a month ago I discovered another soy cheese called ‘Veggie’ cheese. I used t
o avoid it because I have a sensitivity to casein, but since there is such a small amount of it in the product, I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to try. So I tried it and it is AMAZING!
You can slice a chunk of it off and just eat it cold and it tastes like cheese. I gave a slice of it on a cracker to my mom and sister, and they both thought it was regular mozzarella. It also melts really well. The ‘Vegan Gourmet’ cheese melted, but it just melted, it wasn’t chewy or stringy like regular cheese, however, ‘Veggie’ cheese is chewy and stringy like regular cheese!
Most grocery stores I have been to have this product, and the cheese doesn’t just come in a block, it comes in shreds and slices.
If you can’t have dairy, you should really try this…and if you can’t eat soy, the cheese also comes in ‘Rice’. Unfortunately soy products are a ‘cold’ food, (if you have been following my blog you will understand what I mean by this), so I am going to have to cut the ‘Veggie’ cheese out and try the ‘Rice’ cheese…hopefully it will be just as good! I’ll make sure to let you know!
