The Gut Gazette started back in 2009 as a platform for me to share my diagnosis and journey with Crohn’s Disease. It was a space where I could share my experiences and connect with others who were also going through the same thing. A year later, my love for food started to work its way into the blog. I was new to the gluten-free (GF) diet and began sharing GF recipes and product reviews.
As the GF diet began to increase in awareness and popularity, The Gut Gazette started to become more of a gluten-free reference guide than a platform to share my digestive health journey.
Although I wasn’t sharing as much of my digestive health journey, I was still very involved in the digestive health community. In university, I hosted a digestive health support group for students and faculty at The University of Guelph, I volunteered with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Gutsy Walk (which back then was the Heel n’ Wheel a-thon) and over the past couple of years I’ve been a patient lead representative for a Canadian-wide digestive health study, called IMAGINE, which aims to understand the interactions between the gut microbiome and mental health.
As my friends and family will agree, I’m happy and comfortable discussing poop and stomach pain at any time. Tummy troubles aren’t the least bit taboo for me and I am happy to listen to other’s who are having their own set of troubles. Everyone poops!
Over the past couple of years, The Gut Gazette was sadly on the backburner. I launched a new lifestyle blog called The Omm Life and started up a communications and branding agency called Bloomm Agency. Although The Gut Gazette was in hibernation, it was still on my mind. So now, almost 10 years since the launch of The Gut Gazette, I’ve decided to open its doors to include voices from others who experience digestive health issues, or who just want to talk about digestive health.
The Gut Gazette is now officially a space where it won’t just be my voice, but a collection of voices. The Gut Gazette will be a place for people to visit when they’re looking for tips and advice for their digestion, are looking for tummy-friendly recipes and products, or are looking to relate to others who are going through similar gut health issues. It’s a platform for contributors to share their journey and a platform for readers to relate and interact. I’m excited to start this new chapter with The Gut Gazette and I hope you’ll follow along!
